It’s almost done! The Waxahachie Family YMCA gymnasium renovation is entering its final stages in advance of a grand opening set for later this month. The major project was made possible through a grant from the Dallas Mavericks Foundation.

Steps already completed include wall paint to match that of a Dallas Mavericks’ practice facility, new energy-efficient lights, a divider and installation of new baskets.

“The floor will be the final piece of the puzzle and will begin construction on Thursday,” executive director Jon McLaughlin shared with the Sun.

The Mavs foundation and the Waxahachie family YMCA will host a grand opening celebration for the public at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.

This is the 26th basketball court renovation done by the Mavs foundation, which also has built 17 Reading and Learning Centers to serve its communities. Overall, more than $5 million has been awarded in grants over the 43 projects.
