A familiar name rose above the field of four student-athletes for whom votes were cast in the week nine KBEC Sports Player of the Week poll.

Life Waxahachie senior running back SirMichael Veasley captured more than 42-percent of the votes to win his second KBEC Sports PoW award this season.

Veasley previously received the recognition following his 194-yard, four-touchdown performance against Farmersville in week five.

He bested even that rushing total four weeks later, rushing 23 times for 309 yards and a school-record six touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 37-28 district victory Friday, Nov. 1, at home against Mabank.

At the time of his nomination, Veasley had 1,072 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 90 carries (11.9YPC, 134.0YPG) through eight games.

Veasley will be presented with a commemorative KBEC Sports Player of the Week certificate at a date to be announced. He was also a special guest on the first episode of The Locker Room, a weekly sports talk radio show that airs live from 6-7 p.m. Mondays on KBEC 1390AM/99.1FM.
