The Nicholas P. Sims Library staff and library board would like to thank the community for its flexibility and patience as we navigate both Covid-19 and building construction. The library’s main focus is to reach a point that our doors can be safely opened while continuing the required health and safety precautions provided by the governor, the CDC and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. A quarantine procedure has been implemented to assist in safely handling library materials.

With these factors in mind, some important decisions have been made regarding the use of Sims Library for the present:

• Library book drops opened May 18.

• Curbside pickup will begin June 2, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

Patrons may place items on hold via our online catalog at www.simslib.org or by calling the library at 972-937-2671, ext. 0.

When holds are available, patrons will receive a notification via text, email or phone call. Once a notification has been received, patrons may schedule a time to pick up their items via contactless curbside pickup.

All items returned to the library will be returned to the book drop and quarantined for a period of time before being cleaned according to library standards and government recommendations.

Plexi-glass shields have been ordered and will be installed at the circulation checkout desk and at computer bays as an additional safeguard against COVID-19.

All programs including summer reading will be held online. Programs will be offered at off-site locations (such as city parks) as long as social distancing can be maintained.

The construction is moving forward nicely. The library community is anxiously awaiting the completion of this project. This beautiful addition will allow more space for social distancing and new possibilities for community events depending on the “new normal” guidelines.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to best meet the needs of the community and library patrons during this challenging time. The Sims Library staff is so grateful to serve the Waxahachie community!
