WISD summer meal program

Waxahachie ISD’s free summer meal program begins Monday, June 7.

The summer meal program will be at Wedgeworth Elementary, located at 405 Solon Road. Healthy breakfast and lunch meals will be available at no cost to all children ages one to 18. All meals will be served inside the Wedgeworth Elementary cafeteria.  

Dates of service: Monday-Thursday, June 7-30. There is no service Fridays.

Times of service:

Free breakfast: 8-9 a.m.

Free lunch: noon-1 p.m.

OFFERINGS

Faith Family Academy camp

Faith Family Academy offers its summertime camp, Eagle Flight School, a free, hands-on learning program from Monday-Friday, June 7-July 16.

Faith Family Academy is located at 701 Ovilla Road, Waxahachie. The camp also is being held at the school’s Dallas campus.

Breakfast and lunch are included. Students must be enrolled at Faith Family Academy for the 2021-22 school year to attend. Open to all grades – pre-kindergarten through 12th.  Online registration is open and available at https://www.faithfamilyacademy.org/efs. Themed programs for grades pre-K through second, third-eighth, and ninth-12th. Space is limited.

Pride Alliance meetup event

The Pride Alliance of Ellis County will host its first Pride Month Meetup from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Fellowship Park next to Central Presbyterian Church in Waxahachie.

The Ellis County Pride Alliance was started in June 2020 in an attempt to provide support and community for LGBTQ+ and allies in Ellis County. The Pride Month meetup marks both the anniversary of the founding of the organization and LGBTQ+ Pride Month in June.    

The Pride meetup is the organization’s first official event and first opportunity for members and community to meet in person. The meetup will have food and opportunities to hear from welcoming and affirming local leaders. The Pride Month meetup is free and open to those who are members of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

Runnin’ Free Ranch Volunteer Day

Blues on Main

Unity1 Summer Music Fest presents Blues on Main in Ennis on Saturday-Sunday, June 12-13. Live music, domino tournament, children’s activities and more. Gladfest event

Mars Hill Farm in Ferris will host Gladfest, a celebration of gladiolus, from 8:30 a.m-2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, June 12-July 10 (closed Sundays and Mondays). Featuring local vendors, a petting zoo, lawn games and flower cutting. Tens of thousands of blooms on site. Admission is $5 per person, with gladiolus at $2 a stem. Age 2 and younger is free. The city of Waxahachie Animal Services will spray for nuisance mosquitoes from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Thursday, June 17, and will be following a schedule that sees the city spraying every 10 days thereafter.

Wildflower walk

Members of Indian Trail Master Naturalist Chapter will lead a free nature walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Mockingbird Nature Park, 1361 Onward Road (off of Mockingbird Lane), Midlothian. Plan on about one hour for the 1/2-mile walk. Closed-toe shoes, comfortable outdoor clothing and insect repellent are recommended. The walk is canceled in the event of rain.

Great Inclusion Race &

Party in the Park

Presented by Midlothian-based Bridges Training Foundation, this first-ever scavenger hunt and obstacle course will require racers to perform tasks at designated community locations while competing with participating teams for prizes. Event attendees will also enjoy arts and crafts, food trucks, music, and more than 55 vendors at the Party in the Park. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 26 at Midlothian Community Park, 3601 S. 14th St. Party in the Park is free, with a $100 fee per vehicle to take part in the race event. Scavenger hunt participation is limited to the first 100 cars. Registration can be done before the event using the website https://bridgestf.org/inclusion-racers.html.

Private applicator

training scheduled

County Extension agent Mark Arnold has scheduled private applicator trainings on Tuesday, July 27, in the Ellis County Extension Office in the Ellis County Sub Courthouse in Waxahachie.

The schedule for the training includes:

• 8:15 a.m.: Arrive and register. Cost of training manuals is $60 – check or cash only.

• 8:30 a.m.: Begin training

• 1 p.m.: Training complete

While it is not necessary, it is encouraged to pick up training manuals before class. Office hours are from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.    

“Please RSVP to this office if you will be attending one of these trainings at 972-825-5175 for planning purposes,” a spokesman said.

The test must be taken at an approved Texas Department of Agriculture testing site. More information and directions will be provided at the training.
