Question: I saw where Railyard Park recently flooded. Was this expected to happen?

Answer: Yes, due to recent heavy rains, portions of the new Railyard Park flooded. This was anticipated, as it was built in a floodplain. Many engineers were involved in the design, and the park is designed to flood and drain.

As part of this planning, all of the electric is housed above the floodplain in the stage canopy, and at street level at the back of the park.

The photo here was taken at 9 a.m. and, less than three hours later, the water was gone. Although there was a bit of cleanup, this was expected and planned for.

Building parks in floodplains is a common and good use of green space, and Railyard Park is one of a handful of our parks that are partially in the floodplain.

We are excited about this new amenity and the events we will soon be able to share with the community as events begin to happen again following the pandemic. Stay tuned for updates and event announcements very soon!
