Wilma Lord Underwood

Feb. 4, 1921 — Jan. 31, 2019

Wilma Lord Underwood, 97, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2019.  She was born to Bradford and Sallie Lord on Feb. 4, 1921 in the Grady community (Ellis County).  At the age of 13, her family moved to the community of Boz, Texas, where she attended Bethel Methodist Church and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.  Wilma graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1938.  She married J.B. Underwood, Jr. in September 1943.  She and J.B. lived in Forreston until moving to Waxahachie in 1960, where they raised their three children.  They were long-time members of First Baptist Church, Waxahachie, where Wilma actively served in the nursery, taught Sunday School and G.A.s.  Wilma was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who thought of her family and friends first and herself second.  Guests were always welcomed into her home. She was a loving, kind, giving person; loved by many. Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, J. B., and five brothers and sisters, Annie Lee Lord, Thurber Lord, Edward Lord, Inez Bearden and Opal Bearden.  She is survived by her sons Brad, Bart (Jean Ann), daughter Sally (Mike), brother Lemuel, grandchildren Chad (Sara), Natalie, Eric (Camille), Beth, and four great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Owen, Anna and Caleb.

A celebration of Wilma’s life was held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Waxahachie. Her Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment followed services at Hillcrest Burial Park.
