Sister Mary Ann Honza, CDP, a beloved former teacher at St. John’s Catholic School in Ennis, was recently honored for her 75 years of faithful service to the Congregation of Sisters of Divine Providence during the 2019 Jubilee Celebration.
The Eucharistic celebration and reception were held Sunday, June 23, at Sacred Heart Conventual Chapel and Reception Hall, Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas.
Sister Mary Ann Honza was born in Ennis, Texas, to Joe Frank and Anastacia (Horak) Honza . She was born in Bardwell, Texas, and has many relatives who reside in the Ellis County area, with whom she maintains close ties. She entered the convent when she was a young teenager. There, she completed her schooling and proclaimed her vows to become a nun.
As a teaching nun, her education continued and included her receiving a master’s degree in education. Her continuous teaching endeavors encompassed instructing elementary students at many parish school locations in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
For a number of years, she taught elementary students at St. John’s Catholic School in Ennis before retiring and returning to Our Lady of the Lake Convent in San Antonio. Her dedication to education and active religious endeavors has spanned 75 years of service.
