The LCI Classic golf tournament to benefit the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Waxahachie will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie.

Lunch and registration begin at 11 a.m., with the four-man scramble commencing with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward replacing the club’s buses.

“Children are currently being picked up in buses with poor air conditioners and leaky roofs,” said Teresa Evans, who has served as club director since March 2017. “Together, we can replace the buses with updated vans as well as cover the cost of insurance.”

The club provides transportation for its afterschool program, which, last year, had 143 children enrolled, with an average daily attendance of about 100. The program serves up to age 15.

“We transport from schools every day,” Evans said. “We provide snacks, homework time and different programing along with physical or other fun activities for the children.”

Among the activities offered are arts and crafts, computer lab, reading, game room, gym time and sports. Older children also participate in the Torch Club, which is similar to a student council and allows the youth to gain leadership skills while offering input into the club’s programming.

Evans readily says she’s proud of the “good kids” in the program and “a really great, diverse staff” that make the club the place to be for afterschool care – and extends her appreciation to the club’s strong network of supporters, from volunteers to donors such as the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club Texas XXI, Camp Gladiator and the Tomahawks, in addition to the golf tournament’s title sponsor, Lippert Components Inc.

Evans encourages teams to sign up for the golf tournament, which will offer “golf, food, fun, prizes all for a great cause.” The signup process is under way.

During the tournament, players can also purchase tickets for a drawing and mulligans. Prizes will be presented after the tournament, when an auction also is planned. All players will receive a player gift bag as well as pre- and post-event food.

Register online at by Sept. 1 for $450/team. After Sept. 1, registration is $500/team. Sponsorship opportunities are available online at
