The Ellis County Republican Women will convene at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Woodmen Life Facility, 610 Water St., in Waxahachie on Jan. 15. 

John Matthews, featured speaker, is the executive director of the Community Safety Institute and a former chief of police.

Matthews has been in law enforcement for nearly 35 years and has a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA in administration management. He is the author of seven books and nationally recognized for his work in both law enforcement and school safety. 

For more than two decades, he has served as a regular law enforcement analyst for both CNN and FOX News providing analysis on breaking public safety stories. He offers training program for schools, corporations, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and, as Matthews puts it, “Just about every acronym in Washington.” 

Matthews is an award-winning writer and co-author of “The Eyeball Killer,” a true crime Book of the Month and firsthand account of his capture of Dallas’ only serial killer, which has been featured on shows including “HBO Autopsy,” “Evil 1,” “Very Bad Men,” “Born to Kill,” “Murder by the Numbers” and “Mark of a Killer.” His screenplay is being made into a feature film. 

Matthews and his wife, Jill, operate a vineyard and this spring will open Cassaro Winery in downtown Ovilla.
