Following the ice storm and extreme cold last week, some of our water customers may experience higher than normal water bills due to broken plumbing or leaks caused by the temperatures. For those that this is the case, the city of Waxahachie is offering a one-time water billing adjustment to help offset these unanticipated costs.
HOW IT WORKS:
If you experienced a leak or plumbing break, please contact the Utility Billing Department and provide a receipt documenting the repairs made. The receipt may either be from a plumber or contractor or may be a parts receipt if the work was self-performed. Once approved, the adjustment will be based on the amount of your January (previous month) bill. You may submit the receipt in person at City Hall, 401 S. Rogers, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. For questions, you may also call 469-309-4170.
The billing cycles that will include last week’s weather event may extend through late March/early April due to the city billing in arrears. Once you have received your bill and determine that you will be requesting an adjustment, please contact the Utility Billing Department as soon as possible. We anticipate a number of such requests will be made and want to be able to serve our citizens in a timely manner.
Additionally, some customers may have not experienced an increased bill due to damage, but instead due to keeping faucets dripping as a preventative measure. The increased usage as a result of dripping faucets will not qualify for this program.
We want to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our residents for their patience and understanding as we together recover from this unprecedented weather event. Waxahachie’s community spirit and unity as we “weathered the storm” together is truly unique and very much appreciated.
