For Brianna Jansky, animals, especially stuffed ones, hold a special place in her life.
“I have loved animals all my life,” she said. “As a child and during my youth years, I was often bullied. It was through those years that animals became my best friend as they are always friendly.”
Three years ago, Jansky advanced her love for animals to a new level by designing and making stuffed animals.
“It is a therapy for me,” she said. “And I love seeing people’s positive reaction looking at my animal creations.”
At the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market, Jansky shares a booth with her mother, Debbie Jansky of Backyard Eggs. It’s there, each Saturday, that the younger Jansky displays her creations and offers them for sale.
The Waxahachie High School graduate is continuing her education at Cedar Valley College, where she is studying computer graphic design.
“I am using the skills and technology I am learning to create my designs,” she said.
On a recent Saturday morning as customers were looking over her creations, Jansky was busy doing design work on her tablet.
“I create the design on the computer then transfer it to the pattern where I cut out the fabric,” Jansky said. “Using the same pattern, I can change the colors to whatever someone wants.”
One of her latest creations and a favorite of many of the market’s shoppers is a large dragon.
“This is one of the largest I’ve made,” she said. “I had to mark this one ‘sample’ so I would have it to show others. So far there have been several orders made for my dragon.”
Of all her designs, the dragon takes the longest to make.
“Each one takes about four hours to cut the material and put it together,” she said.
Besides stuffed animals, Jansky also makes stickers and pins – all with animal images on them.
The Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays through October at 411 S. Rogers St.
