WHS production of 'Mary Poppins'

The Waxahachie High School production of “Mary Poppins” garnered numerous nominations during Monday’s announcement by the Dallas Summer Musical High School Musical Theater Awards program.

The WHS production of “Mary Poppins” received 10 nominations, including Best Musical.

During the judging season, a panel of adjudicators attends one production at each participating school. Educational feedback is provided on the official evaluation form, with the panel determining nominees and awards for participating schools.

Founded by Leah and Jerry Fullenwider, the DSM High School Musical Theater Awards aim to inspire and honor excellence in high school musical theater and to recognize the importance of musical theater and arts education within the North Texas community.

This regional program culminates with an awards ceremony at Music Hall in Fair Park. The program is modeled after the Tony Awards and serves to recognize outstanding musical theater productions and students. This year’s awards ceremony is slated for Thursday, May 9.

Waxahachie High School was honored with the following nominations:

• BEST ORCHESTRA – Waxahachie HS – Mary Poppins

• BEST ENSEMBLE/CHORUS – Waxahachie HS – Mary Poppins

• BEST TECHNICAL EXECUTION – Waxahachie HS – Mary Poppins

• BEST MUSICAL DIRECTION – Waxahachie HS – Mary Poppins

• BEST DIRECTION – Waxahachie HS – Mary Poppins

• BEST MUSICAL – Waxahachie HS – Mary Poppins
