The Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market and Ellis County Master Gardeners hosted an “All About Pickles” event Saturday, July 27, with vendors offering all sorts of pickled vegetables and fruits as demonstration of their culinary skills. Attendees quickly learned that the word “pickle” refers to much more than cucumbers, with many vegetables and fruits lending themselves well to the cooking technique.

And be sure and stop by the market this Saturday, Aug. 3, when it kicks off the month with a Salsa Fiesta and market chefs Cheryl and Arlene providing samples.

They always come up with some unusual offerings at their sample table so stop in the classroom at the front of the market, enjoy some salsa, pick up some recipes and helpful information and, as always, a flavorful herbal water.

Chile peppers are at their peak in August so look for a wide variety for sale this weekend by market farmers. Pick up your favorites along with the tomatoes, fruits and assorted veggies needed to make your own salsa sampling.
