Ewe 2 Yarn will take part in the North Texas Yarn Crawl from Sept. 10-19. Ewe 2 Yarn is located at 308 S. College St. (in Farmhouse) in downtown Waxahachie.

Yarn Crawl hours will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from noon-5 p.m. Sunday. There will be extended hours for the following special events:

• Opening night party with Handspun Hope

5-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10

Food, drinks and prizes

Meet the founder and executive director, Diana Wiley, and hear about their work in Rwanda, while shopping all the beautiful yarns and artisan made gifts. Open to everyone; no RSVP necessary.

Handspun Hope is an initiative based on the belief that solutions to poverty should be entrepreneurial, innovative and holistic. Handspun Hope employs more than 120 at-risk women in northern Rwanda. Many are living with HIV and are survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi.

“These women create the most gorgeous organic yarn from their own flocks of Merino sheep and German Angora rabbits,” a spokesman said. “Handspun Hope is proud to be the only creators of yarn certified through the Fair Trade Federation.”

• Book signing with Sharon Mondragon

6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16

Reception introducing “The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady.” Be the first to purchase the newly released novel. Dragon Lady colorway will be available in limited quantities and there will be prizes.

“We are super excited to host a book signing and reception for Sharon Mondragon and her new book ‘The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady,’” the spokesman said. “Sharon is not just a nice lady who knits. She’s an award-winning author of fiction that takes her reader to the place where courage and kindness meet. She lives with her husband, her laptop, and her yarn stash in Midlothian, Texas. And guess what? She is also the instructor for our beginning knit and crochet classes.”

Ewe 2 Yarn will also offer a yarn crawl special, with one dollar pattern downloads starting Thursday, Sept. 9, and continuing throughout the crawl. Three new patterns will also come out between now and the crawl.

Normal store hours are from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, with extended hours to 8 p.m. Thursdays.

The community is invited to open knit groups from 1-4 p.m. Mondays and from 5-8 p.m. Thursdays. There is plenty of room to spread out.
