MONDAY, SEPT. 13

Ticket deadline for barbeque fundraiser

Purchase tickets by Sept. 13 for the Texas Democratic Women of Ellis County Sept. 18 barbeque fundraiser at the Ellis County African American Hall of Fame Museum and Library, located at 441 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Waxahachie. The fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and will be in commemoration of the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963.

Included with the purchase of a $10 adult ticket is a brisket sandwich, chips and a drink. Children under 12 can purchase a $5 ticket that includes a brisket sandwich or hot dog with fixings, chips and a drink.

All proceeds will benefit the African American Hall of Fame and Texas Democratic Women of Ellis County’s scholarship fund and community outreach projects. Mosquito spraying

The city of Waxahachie Animal Services will spray for nuisance mosquitoes from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. on the dates listed below, a schedule that sees the city spraying about every 10 days.

NARFE to meet

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at the Bella Italia Restaurant in Ennis at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14. The guest speaker will be Terri Klein, Ellis County indigent care coordinator. Klein is also knowledgeable of Medicare/Medicaid for seniors.

The Ellis County Republican Women will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, 102 YMCA Drive.

The speaker will be James Bell, Ellis County Homeless Coalition Corporation board president.

North Texas Yarn Crawl 2021

Ewe 2 Yarn, located in Farmhouse at 308 S. College St. in downtown Waxahachie, will take part in the North Texas Yarn Crawl through Sept. 19. Yarn Crawl hours will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from noon-5 p.m. Sunday. There will be extended hours for the following special events:

Benefit craft show

Waxahachie CARE Services is hosting a Craft Show & Market Place as part of this fall’s Antique Alley. The outdoor show will be held at Wilemon football field, located at 600 W. 2nd St., Waxahachie. Concessions and restrooms will be available. The show and market place will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18. Admission is a canned good or $1. Book signing with Pat Pratt

Waxahachie author, Pat Pratt, will sign copies of her new book, “Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow,” at the Waxahachie Senior Center from 10-11 a.m. Sept. 21.

This is the third of Pratt’s series involving The Tricycle Girls, Helen, Maggie, and LeeAnne. The trio lives at Golden Harvest, a retirement village in Loblolly, a small Georgia town. They have the unique capacity to fall into crimes in and around their adopted home and its sometimes annoying inhabitants.

All three books of the series, No. 1, “Old Jewel,” No. 2, “No Stone Unturned” and No. 3, “Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow,” are available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, both as hard copies and as e-books. Or come to the senior center on the 21st to say hi and pick up your signed copies.

The annual Ellis County Life Chain will be held Sunday, Oct. 3, at two locations:
