Free children’s vaccinations

The Texas Department of Health Services offers vaccines Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at its office at 108 E. Kilpatrick St., Cleburne. By appointment only. Call 817-517-2306.

Free COVID-19 testing

Free COVID-19 testing is available at the city of Waxahachie kiosk located in the Waxahachie Senior Activity Center parking lot, 122 Park Hills Drive. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday. The testing is self-collected and is a shallow nasal PCR test. Results are available within 24-48 hours from receipt of the sample at the lab. Schedule an appointment at curative.com. Belles and Beaus registration

now open

Applications for the 2021-22 WSA Belles & Beaus Season are now available. Designed for Ellis County high school juniors and seniors, the Waxahachie Symphony Association’s Belles & Beaus program raises students’ awareness of the symphony and provides them with an education in music appreciation, life skills and etiquette. At the conclusion of the season, Belles & Beaus are honored at a formal gala, which includes dinner, dancing and their presentation. Oktoberfest

Saint Joseph Catholic Church hosts its annual Oktoberfest from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the church, 600 E. Marvin, Waxahachie.

Oktoberfest is an all-day fun filled family event featuring live music, exceptional food, kids games, car show, bingo, drawing and more. Admission and parking are free. The community is invited.

Larkin Newton descendant reunion

Descendants of Larkin Newton will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, some for the first time. A tour of Larkin’s cabin is planned, along with visits to the Newton Cemetery and Midlothian Cemetery (where grave markers have been placed on six graves that previously were unmarked).  Descendants are coming from California, Illinois, Virginia, Massachusetts and Texas.
