Waxahachie CARE – food

Waxahachie CARE, 1208 Ferris Ave., is open to distribute groceries from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday. The nonprofit food bank is providing curbside. Each box is different and each day is different food, depending on what comes in. Call 972-923-2273 for more information.

Salvation Army – food

The Salvation Army at 620 Farley St. in Waxahachie has grocery drive-through hours from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Contact the Waxahachie location at 972-937-7727.

Mobile pantry

A mobile pantry is held at 9:30 a.m. the third Saturday of every month at Creekside Church in Midlothian. All welcome are welcome. Open until food is gone.

The Reservation is open

The Reservation at Waxahachie High School is open from 11 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will add Thursdays to its schedule in the future. Baylor Gift Shop open

The Gift Shop at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie is open with hours from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Free vaccinations

Toys for Tots

The Ellis County campaign for Toys for Tots runs through Dec. 14. Campaign headquarters are located at 216 N. College St., Waxahachie. The campaign accepts new, unwrapped toys at its drop-off locations for ages 0-14 years of age. Waxahachie CARE will accept all family toy requests from Nov. 1-Dec. 7, online and over the phone. Christmas drawing

The Midlothian Chamber Ambassadors are hosting a Christmas Spirit drawing as part of a shop local campaign for the holidays. Midlothian businesses will create a wreath or tree and participants can buy drawing tickets at their business. Proceeds go to the Manna House Angel Tree project. Raffle begins Nov. 2 and winners will be announced Dec. 1. Tickets are $5 at any participating merchant.

Veterans Ceremony

The Ellis County Veterans Ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, outside at the veterans’ memorial at the Waxahachie Civic Center. The ceremony will feature patriotic music and veteran recognition. A wreath-laying, gun salute, the playing of “Taps” and a small flyover by vintage military aircraft will be done. People are strongly encouraged to wear masks but are not required to do so. There will be no food; restroom facilities in the building will be open.

Private applicator training

County extension agent Mark Arnold has scheduled private applicator trainings for Dec. 15 in the Ellis County Extension Office in the Ellis County Sub-Courthouse in Waxahachie.

The training schedule includes:

• 8:15 a.m. – arrive and register; cost of training manuals is $60 check or cash only

• 8:30 a.m. – begin training

• 1 p.m. – training complete

While it is not necessary, it is encouraged to pick up training manuals before class. Extension office hours are from 8 a.m.-noon and from 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. RSVP to the Extension office at 972-825-5175 for planning purposes if planning to attend one of the trainings.
