Thanksgiving turkey giveaway

The Essential Foundation is giving away 100-plus free turkeys and 100-plus canned goods for needy families to enjoy this Thanksgiving. Registration is required at http://www.efiinc.org. Donations are also accepted on the website.

Food donations sought

T&S Ministries is seeking non-perishable food donations to restock Ellis County food pantries, as well as feed the homeless population. Visit the nonprofit’s Facebook page to find out how donate.

Free children’s vaccinations

The Texas Department of Health Services offers vaccines Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at its office at 108 E. Kilpatrick St., Cleburne. By appointment only. Call 817-517-2306.

Belles and Beaus registration

Applications for the 2021-22 WSA Belles & Beaus Season are now available. Designed for Ellis County high school juniors and seniors, the Waxahachie Symphony Association’s Belles & Beaus program raises students’ awareness of the symphony and provides them with an education in music appreciation, life skills and etiquette. Online auction open; benefits scholarship/outreach funds

TDW of Ellis County invites everyone to shop early for Christmas at its online auction at https://www.biddingowl.com/TXDWofEllisCounty.

The auction will run from noon Nov. 15 until noon Dec. 15. Although bidding is online, items may be viewed at 215 Main St., Waxahachie, on Nov. 27 and Dec. 10. A member will be on hand to log any bids and answer any questions. Items include original paintings, handcrafted items, gift baskets, gift certificates and various services. You will be sure to find something for everyone on your gift list. Funds from the auction benefit TDW of Ellis County’s scholarship awards and outreach programs.

P&Z to meet

The Waxahachie Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Tuesday, Nov. 23, at City Hall, 401 S. Rogers St. Briefing at 6 p.m. in the council conference room, with the meeting at 7 p.m. in the council chamber.


Community Thanksgiving Feast

Brown Street Church of Christ hosts its 30th annual Community Thanksgiving Feast from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, at the church fellowship hall, 2471 Brown St., Waxahachie. Interfaith musical program

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites the public to an interfaith  musical program, “Share the Light,” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at the church, 1019 Big Stone Gap Road, Duncanville. Twelve soloists and groups will perform instrumental and choral numbers through hymns and carols. Admission is free, with refreshments available after the program.


Christmas at SAGU

Tree lighting and parade

The city of Waxahachie will host its annual community tree lighting and lighted night parade Tuesday, Nov. 30. The event kicks off at 6 p.m., with the parade at 6:30 p.m. The tree lighting follows the parade. For more information, email asimpson@waxahachie.com.

Beauville event

Navarro College holds its annual Beauville holiday event from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Waxahachie campus, 1900 John Arden Drive. This is a free community-wide, family-friendly event full of crafting, train rides, story time, games, Santa photos, hay ride, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, music, hot chocolate, popcorn, cotton candy, mini pony photos and more. Live nativity

The Lone Star Cowboy Church of Ellis County will host its annual Live Nativity from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, and from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. Families can drive through the parking lot to see the live nativity and or park to enjoy other activities for children, such as a train ride. Free hot chocolate and cider served. Christmas Market

The Waxahachie Junior Service League hosts its annual Christmas Market, themed this year as “Sparkle & Sleigh,” on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 3-4, at the Waxahachie Civic Center. Tickets are available for purchase at https://www.waxahachiejsl.org.

Hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday for “Mimosas at Market,” VIP Night from 6-9 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (regular shopping experience).

Bethlehem Revisited

Step back in time to the night of Christ’s birth during Bethlehem Revisited, a living nativity that features the daily life of Christ’s birthplace. The live production features the story from Herod’s court to the birth to the arrival of the three wise men. Takes place from 6-9 p.m. Friday-Sunday, Dec. 3-5, and from 6-9 p.m. Friday-Sunday, Dec. 10-12. Located on the grounds next to Central Presbyterian Church, 402 N. College St., Waxahachie. The Ellis County Art Association and Art on the Square host a popup art sale of featured artists every second Thursday during Ladies Night out on the Square. Visit the gallery between 6-8 p.m. and visit with the artists in person as they share their inspirations for their artwork. The gallery is located at 113 W. Franklin St., Waxahachie.

FWSO to perform

YMCA Santa Run

The Waxahachie Family YMCA hosts its annual Santa Run, a family-focused 5K and 1-mile run, featuring each runner wearing a Santa suit at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. The event starts and ends at Railyard Park, 455 S. College St., where activities will include live music and vendor booths. A candle walk will be held Friday evening, Dec. 10.
