On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Ellis County Republican Woman will convene at 7 p.m. for a meeting on the Zoom online meeting platform.

Kaitlyn Shimel is a 9-1-1 dispatcher, also known as a telecommunicator in the state of Texas. She was hired by the Waxahachie Police Department in the fall 2019 and works the deep night shift. Her work consists of working several positions within the agency’s 9-1-1 communications center.

Beyond answering the 9-1-1 emergency phone lines and dispatching police officers to calls for service, she works the EMS and fire channels, non-emergency, and administrative phones. Her work as a telecommunicator also has her navigating several interdepartmental records management systems and external state law enforcement databases.

Shimel moved to Texas from California in February 2019. She comes from a family that has a long history in the fields of law enforcement and security, one of the factors that led her into the field of criminal justice/law enforcement.

For the Zoom meeting information, contact ECRW president Chereé Barrett at nanbarrett@aol.com or program vice president Teresa Aguilar at aguilar2201@comcast.net.
