The community is invited to attend the upcoming “A Day in the Ring,” an annual event held in coordination with the Ellis County Youth Expo.

Each year, the event showcases the talents of youth with special needs from across the county, as they pair up with a 4-H or FFA show buddy to show a livestock animal.

“We are extremely excited to offer this show and can’t wait to see all of the youth,” said Megan Parr, Ellis County Extension agent for 4-H and youth development, wrote online during this year’s signup period.

Applications were accepted through March 1 for the show from both youth with special needs and from 4-H and FFA members wanting to serve as their show mentors. At registration’s end and when the applications were tallied, more than 300 special needs youth had signed up, with a corresponding number of 4-H and FFA member volunteers.

“This is our biggest one yet,” ag supporter John Paul Dineen III said. “And we believe our [Day in the Ring event] is the largest one in the state.”

A Day in the Ring will be held Thursday, March 28, at the Ellis County Expo Center in Waxahachie. The show begins at 10 a.m.
